CIVIL REQUIREMENTS
A State Marriage License must be obtained from any Town or City Hall in New York State at least 24 hours, but not more than 60 days, before your marriage. The nearest location is the Brookhaven Town Clerk, 205 South Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, NY. (Best to call ahead to check hours and what is needed --- 654-7828).
CHURCH REQUIREMENTS
Participation in a Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation Program is required by the Church. This may be done in one of two ways: our Parish Program or an Engaged Encounter Weekend. Your priest or deacon will explain these options.
Catholics must obtain a recently dated copy of their Baptismal Certificate by contacting their Church of Baptism. If you know the date of Baptism from a certificate now in your possession, share it with that Church so they may more easily find your record. Please secure this as soon as possible. Non-Catholic Christians are asked to provide the date, name, and location of the Church of their Baptism.
A Word About Timing and Consideration:
REHEARSAL: Call the priest assisting you about three months before your wedding date to set up the Rehearsal. Due to many parish activities as well as many demands on the priest's time, the Rehearsal must be started on time and will end one-half hour after that scheduled time whether or not everyone is there.
WEDDING: Due to other demands, all persons and cars related to your wedding must have left the grounds no later than one and one-half hours after the scheduled beginning of your wedding.
VISITING CLERGY: You are welcome to invite a priest or deacon relative or friend to officiate at your wedding provided they agree to follow these rules governing schedule and time.
