Fr. Andrew G. Nirrengarten, Associate Pastor
Fr. Andrew G. Nirrengarten, Associate Pastor

On May 28, 1966, Fr. Andy was ordained a priest by Bishop Kellenberg in St. Agnes Cathedral.

Fr. Andy was born and raised in the Ridgewood- /Glendale section of Queens and spent summers at his family’s house in West Islip. He attended all Catholic schools in the Brooklyn Diocese: St. Pancras, Glendale and then Holy Trinity High School. After graduating, he went to St. Francis College, Butler Street, Brooklyn. After college, he applied to the Diocese of Rockville Centre for Priesthood. He was sent to St. Mary's Seminary in Kentucky for three years, then he went to Our Lady of Angels Seminary, Albany, New York, for Theology.

Most of Fr. Andy's priestly life has been spent in Suffolk County. He has been in this area since 1982 when he was assigned to St. Mark, Shoreham. From there he went to St. James, Setauket, Assumption, Centereach, and St. Margaret, Selden. Fr. Andy came to Infant Jesus in November, 1998, after having been Chaplain at St. Charles and Mather Hospitals. He is very happy living in the area and has been fortunate to stay in the general vicinity.

Fr. Andy has been involved in many aspects of Priesthood. After ordination he attended the Pastoral Institute for a Masters of Divinity degree. He has been involved in religious education programs, Pre-Cana, the RCIA and the Adult Education Division of the Diocesan Religious Education Program.

Fr. Andy has also been active in the Matt Talbot Retreat Movement; giving retreats on Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut and upstate New York.

Fr. Andy enjoys the outdoors. He has been an avid skier both snow and water; boating has always been a part of his life. He loves to garden; vegetables and flowers. He has played many sports except golf. Racket ball, paddle ball and hand ball were his best sports. He also enjoys fishing. He is a big Country Music fan.

Fr. Andy is very happy being a priest and living the priestly lifestyle. It is his hope to stay at Infant Jesus and serve the people and include them among his friends.
