Rev. Chuck Romano, Pastor
Fr. Chuck Romano, Pastor

Hello! Greetings and welcome to our parish web page. As the pastor since June of 1998, I welcome you to peruse the data about our parish. My four and one half years as pastor of Infant Jesus have sure gone by quickly. I could not have asked for a more wonderful place to serve as a first time pastor. The spirit of our Covenant Community, the dedication of so many committed parishioners, the spirit of our worship and all the different ministries have truly been an inspiration to me and a true sign of the Kingdom's presence in our midst.

At this time we are specially blest to be celebrating the 100th anniversary of our parish. There is a whole calendar of events planned to mark this historic period. Check the website and weekly bulletin announcements for more information. We hope you will join us during the centennial for prayer and celebration often.

Since it is customary to give some personal background as part of this site, here goes. I was born in Malden, Massachusetts back in June, 1952. My family soon returned to the New York area and I was raised in Valley Stream on Long Island. My parents, sister and brother with their families all still live back in Valley Stream. I attended St. Joseph Grammar School in Hewlett, which by the way was the only Catholic Grammar School to open with an all lay faculty and principal back in 1957. My high school years were spent at St. Pius X Prep Seminary in Uniondale and then I went to Cathedral College in Douglaston, Queens. I completed my Masters of Divinity studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Gerald Ryan in 1979. My first years were spent at St. Ignatius Martyr Parish in Long Beach. I was also an Associate Pastor at St. John Nepomuccene, Bohemia; St. Kilian, Farmingdale and Holy Spirit, New Hyde Park, before coming to Infant Jesus.

I have enjoyed all the many aspects of being a parish priest. The many and varied ways to be a part of people's lives have brought a richness and depth to my life on so many levels. And through it all the goodness and care of our God has always shone brightly. I live by the basic belief that God is always loving us, is always forgiving us and is always with us. That has been my experience and I hope yours too! Being a pastor hopefully gives me added ways to grow in and share my life in God.

One of my interests has been musical theater having started a still thriving theater group at St. Kilian Church in Farmingdale. I also follow sports pretty avidly, rooting for the Mets, Rangers, Knicks and Giants. I will also confess to being a Red Sox fan so I guess my Massachusetts roots still hold. You may find me at an oldies concert or in some fine Irish establishment to sample a pint and the local entertainment.

I hope that the information on our web page serves your need to know or find out about something. If we can be of any help please give us a ring or stop by. As you can see we are a pretty active parish and see our mission as one to live more fully the gospel call by saying yes to the Covenant Community. We believe that "we are in this together and we share with one another." If you would like to find out more just contact us. And if you are in the neighborhood stop by for a prayer or to say hi! Take care for now. Visit our web page for future information about Infant Jesus and remember... God smiles when he hears your name. God bless!
