A deliberate and gracious effort at hospitality is the first and indispensable step on the way to Christian love. Gracious hospitality generates a form of communication no one can ever truly estimate. Therefore, a warm smile and a welcoming personality are the key requirements of an usher or greeter. Ushers and greeters, both men and women, respond to the needs of the assembled faithful by greeting and welcoming people, distributing bulletins, taking up the collection when called upon, organizing the offertory procession, assuring the safety of all gathered by keeping the entrances and aisles clear, assisting worshippers in finding seats, and keeping the House of God neat and orderly between Masses. As part of the Mass Team, they serve at the same Mass each week to provide friendly and familiar surroundings to those attending Mass.
