Since the beginning of the church, communities have chosen persons for the task of reading Scriptures at worship.  Being a reader, however, is more than just fulfilling a task.  At its best, reading is a calling, vocation, ministry and a spiritual discipline.  Lectors, therefore, are trained liturgical ministers who come from the midst of the assembly to proclaim the Word of God at Sunday and weekday Masses so that believers can hear God’s Word and receive it into their hearts.  Lectors may also serve at other liturgical opportunities including Evening Prayer, Reconciliation Services, and special communal prayer services throughout the year.

Lectors must be able to read and proclaim the Scriptures with devout reverence, respect, understanding and clarity, and to this end, it is important that they spend time in study, reflection and preparation.

If you are interested in becoming a Lector, please contact Lucy Paplin at the Rectory.
